Dr. Pizzorno is a doctor of naturopathic medicine whose vision and
dedication to the field unites the healing traditions of natural medicine
with scientific methodology, resulting in major advances for natural
medicine. As founding President of Bastyr University in Seattle,
Washington, he has led this institution to become the first
fully-accredited multi-disciplinary college of natural medicine in the U.S.
Dr. Pizzorno is a noted lecturer, teacher, writer and leading communicator of natural medicine, wellness and self help. He is author of Total Wellness: Improve Your Health by Understanding the Body's Healing Systems (Prima Publishing, 1997) and is co-author of the internationally acclaimed A Textbook of Natural Medicine and Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. A frequent speaker on television and radio, Dr. Pizzorno also serves on several editorial boards and writes articles for numerous publications, including the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, Let's Live, Vegetarian Times. He was also on the Editorial Board for Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide.
In 1993 Dr. Pizzorno, as a representative from the naturopathic profession, was selected to present to First Lady Hillary Clinton's Health Care Reform Task Force. He was also appointed to the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Advisory Panel on Health and Safety Assessment of Dietary Supplements, and had the opportunity to educate members of Congress on the importance of self-help and wellness lifestyle choices as well as the role of natural medicine in health care reform. He is currently consulting with pioneering insurance companies and HMO's who are investigating the inclusion of natural medicine.
