Shri Kant Mishra, M.D., M.S., Doctor of Ayurveda


Dr. Mishra is coordinator of the Program for Complementary/Alternative Medicine, USC School of Medicine, and a leading expert in Ayurvedic medicine. He is developing a program in Integrative Medicine at USC with a major emphasis on the scientific basis of complementary health care modalities.

An internationally renowned expert in the field of neurology, he is a Professor of Neurology at the USC School of Medicine, fellow and Chair of the history section of the American Academy of Neurology, and formerly served as the head of the Neurology Department at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He served as Chief of Staff of the Los Angeles Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic, the largest of its kind in the United States, for ten years and is a neurologist at the Greater Los Angeles VA Health Care System. Dr. Mishra formerly served as Associate Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neuromuscular Disease Program at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, and Chief of Neurology Service VA Medical Center Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Mishra has a formal training in yoga and meditation as well as a degree of Doctor of Ayurveda from Benares Hindu University in India. He is one of the few individuals working in the U.S. who has a formal degree in Ayurvedic Medicine. He is currently writing a book entitled, Ayurveda: The Art and Science of Healthy Living, and is contributing a chapter on Ayurveda and Yoga to a professional resource guide on scientific and outcomes-based alternative and complementary medicine, to be published by Stanford University and the National Institutes of Health. He has been extensively published in the medical literature with over two hundred papers, abstracts and book reviews in peer-reviewed medical journals in neuroscience, management science and integrative medicine, particularly in Ayurveda. He has also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Alternative Medicine in Clinical/Therapeutic Practice, Journal of Integrative Medicine, Journal of Neurological Sciences, and as a reviewer for Neurology and Annals of Neurology.
